2022

Hotel

Oslo, Norway

When Sommerro House opened in 2022 in an iconic building at Solli Plass in Oslo, the hotel became a new symbol of design, urban living, and history all in one. The building – originally the headquarters for Oslo Lysverker – was constructed in the early 1930s and has now been renovated into a world-class hotel and experience house. We at SIFAB were responsible for the delivery and installation of all fixed and loose furnishings in the public areas – a comprehensive assignment where the ambition was to translate the building's history and style into a modern hotel expression.

Background

The hotel is located in the Frogner district of Oslo – a place that offers both proximity to the city's vibrancy and a stylish architectural heritage. The building that now houses Sommerro House is a preserved functionalist/Art Deco gem from the 1930s, featuring historical details such as marble finishes, artworks, and the original façade. The design concept focused on preserving the building's unique character – details, materials, and expressions needed to feel authentic, while the hotel would operate with modern standards, comfort, and flexibility for guests. SIFAB's role was to bring the interior design from vision to reality in a project of high complexity and visibility.

Process

In close collaboration with the design team at the American agency GRECODECO, the choice of materials, customized measurements, and logistical solutions were defined based on both the building's preservation status and hotel requirements. We delivered all custom fixed furnishings in the public areas – including the reception, lounges, restaurants, bars, and meeting rooms – as well as loose furnishings and furniture that harmonize with the project's Art Deco aesthetic and the hotel's social ambitions. Together, this made it possible for the interior to both reflect the building's heritage and meet modern demands for functionality, sustainability, and design.
