When Tapetfabriken opened in 2021 in the former wallpaper factory complex in Sickla/Nacka, the hotel set a new standard for industrially genuine hotel décor in the Stockholm area. The historic building has been given new life – and the interior was meant to reflect the factory heritage, brickwork, industrial patina, while simultaneously creating a warm, modern hotel experience. We at SIFAB were responsible for all fixed and loose furnishings – a task where form, function, and craftsmanship were united.

Background

The project required a delicate balance: to refine and preserve the building's original character (a wallpaper factory with a brick facade and industrial heritage) while delivering a modern hotel standard. Our biggest challenge was to create bespoke furniture, details, and environments that reflected the building's history, but also met the requirements of modern comfort and operational standards. A large part of the interior consists of custom-made furniture – desks, headboards, shutters – all with unique details that anchor the hotel's identity in the location.

Process

In close collaboration with architects and clients, we delivered a comprehensive solution for the interior design with a focus on details. High demands were placed on the correct processing of materials and the selections were expected to feel authentic while also meeting the high standards for fire protection, durability, and operational reliability. The overall project – from lobby to guest rooms – achieved a consistently high level of craftsmanship and a clear design expression.
